El Diestro.- Recuperando recuerdos de juventud, os hablaré de un grupo Rock que me causó gran impacto, aunque no duradero. Se trata de REDBONE, formado en California a finales de los ’60. La banda estaba conformada por Indios Cheyenne de la Reserva del Estado de Washington.

La Banda estaba formada por:

Lolly Vegas Voz, Guitarra y teclados.
Pat Vegas Voz, bajo y teclados.
Tony Bellamy Voz, Guitarra y teclados.
Peter DePoe Batería, percusión y coros.

Esta formación original fue cambiando a lo largo de su discografía, en la cual iré mencionando los cambios oportunos.
El nombre original “Redbone” en dialecto cajún, se puede traducir por “Indio Blanco”. Una anécdota que no quiero dejar pasar, es el curioso apodo del Batería, conocido como “El último oso caminante”, quien tocaba el tambor en las ceremonias de las reservas cheyenne donde vivía.
Su música, una curiosa conjunción de ritmos autóctonos indios con Soul y Rock, obtuvieron algunos éxitos a nivel internacional, cabe mencionar entre ellos “Witch Queen of New Orleans” y “We where all wounded at wounded knee” este último tema fue censurado durante un tiempo en muchos medios de comunicación de Estados Unidos, ya que la canción nos habla de la limpieza étnica sufrida por el pueblo Lakota en 1890.

Este disco fue prohibido en Estados Unidos debido a su alto contenido político, recordando la masacre de una banda de indios sioux por el Séptimo de Caballería en 1890 y solo se editaron 500 copias.
Fue sin embargo en Europa donde la canción se editó dentro del disco:
